We have been sitting here at E-2580 in the E Block Market for quite some time now. Most people in Rajaji Puram know where Rupam Chauraha is, so finding us isn't too hard. It’s a small shop, Erose Cosmetics And Beauty Parlour, and we just do what we can for the ladies around here. Lucknow gets really hot in the summer months, so the ceiling fan is always running fast, even if it rattles a bit. We spend a lot of time wiping the glass counters because the dust from the road just comes right in. I usually start the morning by sweeping the front and arranging the bottles of shampoo and creams we keep for sale. It isn’t a fancy place with big sofas, just a few sturdy chairs and mirrors that show everything. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to sit and wait, but the neighbors are nice so we just chat. My hands are usually busy with threading or mixing some henna for someone's hair. We don't do anything too complicated, just the regular stuff people need to feel a bit better. Sometimes we get a rush before a wedding in the colony, and then it’s a bit of a mess with everyone talking at once. We use the same towels we’ve had for a year, but they are clean and soft. It’s just a basic life here, nothing like those big malls.
