Beauty Rose Salon

If you find yourself at Ram Ram Bank Chauraha in Lucknow, you’ve likely seen Ashirwad Plaza. Beauty Rose Salon is located right in there, in the Aliganj area. It’s a bit of a busy spot because of the 226024 zip code being so central. The shop itself is nothing like those expensive places you see on television. It’s a practical space with a few workstations and some shelves for the combs and rollers. We spend a lot of time cleaning up hair from the tiles because there’s always someone coming in. The plaza can get a bit stuffy, so we keep a small fan running in the corner to help. People stop by while they’re out doing their banking or shopping at the other stores in Aliganj. It’s a place where women and kids from the neighborhood can come without feeling like they have to dress up. We have some old magazines on the table, mostly about movies and cooking, that people read while they wait for their turn. The mirrors are large but have a few chips around the edges. It’s just a local shop where we do haircuts and some basic styling. We don't use fancy words to describe what we do. It’s just a matter of using the scissors and making sure people leave feeling a little better than they did when they walked in. It’s our way of being part of the community here.
