Nath Chikan Palace

You can find us at Mig 294 in Ramnagar. We are in the Aishbagh area, right near the Prajapti Brahm Kumari Ashram. It is a landmark that everyone knows, so we just tell people to look for the ashram. Our shop is called Nath Chikan Palace, though it is not really a palace. It is just a regular building where we keep our chikan work. This area is quite peaceful compared to the main city markets. We have different types of hand-embroidery on cotton and georgette fabrics. Mostly we deal with local customers who live around Ramnagar. The work is slow because everything is done by hand. We sit on the floor on white sheets most of the day. It is how we have always worked. Sometimes the light in the shop isn't great, but we manage with a few extra bulbs. My brother handles the customers while I look after the artisans who come in from the nearby villages. We don't have a big staff. Just a few people who have been with us for years. The patterns we use are the old ones that people still like to wear. We don’t really follow the new fashion trends too much because the classics sell better. The neighborhood is nice and we know most of the people who walk past our door every day. It feels like home here. We keep some tea ready for whoever stops by to chat or look at the new pieces we finished.
