The shop is located inside Ma Complex on Jopling Road. If you know Gokhale Marg in Lucknow, you know how the traffic gets during the afternoons. We are right there near Royal Cabana. Every morning starts about the same way. We unlock the heavy shutters and let some air in. The mirrors need a good wipe down every single day because dust just finds its way in somehow. It is a simple place for men to come and get their hair cut or have a shave. We have the usual chairs and the tools are kept on the side tables. Sometimes the power goes out for a bit and we just wait it out or use the back-up light. It gets pretty busy on the weekends when everyone is off work. People walk in from the nearby buildings and wait their turn on the bench. We keep some old newspapers around for them to read. It isn’t anything fancy. Just a regular parlour where we do the work and talk about the weather or whatever else is happening on the street. Jopling Road has a lot of movement, so there is always something to look at through the door. We spend a lot of time cleaning up hair from the floor. It’s just the way it is here in the complex. The routine stays the same and that is fine by us. We have been here for a while and the neighbors know us well.
