R & L Pvt. Ltd. is located right across from the District Library here in Ladakh. The air is thin and it gets incredibly cold in the winter, which definitely changes how we run things. Our office is a small building that we try to keep warm with a space heater. We do a bit of everything, mostly helping with local logistics and small-scale private projects. When it snows heavily, the roads get blocked and everything just stops for a few days. We use that time to catch up on the books or just drink butter tea and wait. Being near the library is nice because it’s a quiet part of town, though we get a lot of tourists wandering by during the summer months. We have a few people working here who have lived in the mountains their whole lives. We don't have much in the way of fancy furniture, just what we need to get the work done. The internet can be a bit spotty when the weather is bad, so we still do a lot of things the old-fashioned way with pens and ledgers. It’s a slower pace of life up here, but we like it that way. We just keep the doors open for whoever needs a hand with their business needs. When the sun is out, the view from the window is hard to beat and it makes the cold manageable.
