Purnagiri Rice Mills

Purnagiri Rice Mills is located right on Station Road in Tanakpur. If you are coming from the railway station, we are very easy to spot. Being so close to the station means there is always a lot of noise and people moving around, which we have gotten used to. The mill has been a part of this street for a long time. We spend our days processing rice and keeping the equipment in good shape. Sometimes the power goes out, and we have to wait a bit, but that is just part of living in Tanakpur. We have a small group of guys who handle the heavy bags. It is physically demanding work, especially when it gets humid in the summer months. The smell of the rice is something you never really get out of your clothes. We don't have any fancy signs or a big lobby. It is just the mill, the storage area, and a small desk where we keep the logs. Most people around here know us by name. We get the paddy from the local farmers nearby. They bring it in on tractor-trolleys, and we get to work. It's a simple process, really. We just focus on getting the husks off and making sure the grain is clean. There’s no secret to it, just keeping the machines oiled and showing up every morning. We like being near the station because it feels like we are right in the middle of everything.
