Out here in Umari, things move at a different pace. We’re located in the Satalasana Taluka of Mehsana district. It’s a rural area, so you won’t find any skyscrapers or massive traffic jams around our office. It’s mostly just open space and a lot of dust during the dry months. We’ve been working as engineers in this part of Gujarat for a while now. Most of our days are spent dealing with the practical side of things. We don't have a fancy reception area or a coffee machine that makes lattes. Usually, it’s just us and our tools, working through whatever project is currently on the table. The local people know where to find us in Umari. We’re right by the post office, which makes it easy to explain our location to anyone coming from out of town. The weather can be quite tough, especially when the sun is beating down on the plains, but we’re used to it by now. We take our breaks when we can and try to get the work done before it gets too dark. It’s a straightforward way of living and working. There’s no need for complicated talk or big promises. We just look at what needs to be fixed or built and we get to it. Being part of the Mehsana district means we understand the local needs and the way people around here expect things to be done. It’s just us, doing our bit.
