Jayant Engineering

Out here in the GIDC area of Gandhidham, things are pretty industrial. Our workshop is at units 130 and 131. It’s a dusty part of town, especially in the afternoons when the wind picks up across Kachchh. Jayant Engineering is basically just a big shed with heavy machines and some grease on the floor. We spend most of our time dealing with metal and making sure parts fit like they should. It’s loud during the day with the grinders going. We don’t have an office with air conditioning or soft chairs. If you come by, you’ll probably find us in overalls. We’ve been in this spot for several years now. The sun hits the roof pretty hard in the summer, making it quite warm inside. We mostly take on jobs from other local businesses that need something fabricated or repaired. It’s not fancy work, but it needs to be done right. Sometimes the shipments for raw materials get delayed, which is frustrating, but we manage somehow. My brother and a couple of local guys handle the heavy lifting. We keep a ledger on a wooden desk that’s seen better days. People know where to find us if they have a project that needs a steady hand. We don’t spend much time on the phone; we’d rather be working at the bench. It’s just a regular engineering shop doing its bit in the area. We like it that way. There is a small tree outside the gate that gives a bit of shade in the morning.
