You can find S L V Bakery Sweet Mart at 2-875, right on the Kanyakumari Highway near Kumta Kutchery. Being on the highway means we get a lot of travelers stopping in who are tired from driving and just want something sweet or a quick snack. The smell of baking bread and sugar is usually the first thing you notice when you walk in. We start very early in the morning, long before the sun is up, to get everything ready for the day. Our counters are filled with different kinds of sweets and savory items that we’ve been making the same way for a long time. It’s a family-style environment, and the staff is mostly local people who have worked here forever. The floor is made of old tile and it’s seen a lot of foot traffic over the years. We don't have a fancy menu or digital screens. We just have the glass cases and the prices written out simply. When the festival seasons come around, it gets incredibly crowded and we all have to work double time to keep up with the demand for sweets. It’s hard work standing on your feet all day, and the kitchen gets very hot, but we like seeing people enjoy what we make. We aren’t a big chain, just a local bakery trying to keep the traditions going for the folks in Kumta and the people passing through.
