Govt. Arts College (Autonomous)

This college has been a fixture on Court Road in Kumbakonam for a very long time now. Being a government institution, it has that specific feel to it, with high ceilings and heavy wooden doors. The campus has a lot of old trees that provide some much-needed shade during the hot Tamil Nadu summers. You will see students hanging around the corridors or sitting under the trees with their books. Since we are autonomous, we handle a lot of our own affairs right here on the premises. The administrative office is always a busy place with people coming in for forms or to check their results on the notice board. It is not a modern, glass-walled office; it is more about stacks of registers and the sound of old typewriters sometimes. We have students coming from all over the district, and the atmosphere is usually quite serious, especially during the exam season. The walk from the main gate to the lecture halls is quite a distance, and you can see the history of the place in the way the stone steps have worn down over the years. We do not have any flashy marketing, we just offer the courses and let the students do their work. It is a plain, functional place that serves the local community. Everyone in Kumbakonam knows where the Arts College is, right there on Court Road. We just keep the gates open and the classes running.
