This is our spot in Kullu, right here in Himachal Pradesh. The pin code is 175131 if you’re sending mail. For some time now, we have been operating as Hotel Broadway's Inn. It’s a pretty standard building right on the road. A big part of our day is just making sure the front desk is covered and the water is running hot. Kullu gets quite cold in the winter months. Standing in the right place outside, you can see the mountains clearly. It's not a fancy place, just a regular inn where people stop. My cousin helps out sometimes with the cleaning. Trying to keep the lobby decent is hard because dust always finds its way in from the main road. The traffic in Kullu can get pretty loud during the day, especially when the trucks go by. Everyone is used to it by now. That's just how things are in this part of India. People come and go. Some stay for a night, others a bit longer if they have work in the district. We don’t really do anything special, just provide a place to sleep. Most of the staff comes from the local villages nearby. We talk about the weather and the price of things mostly. If you need anything, one of us is usually sitting near the entrance. It's a basic setup but it works for us and the people who stay. A hot tea kettle stays going for most of the morning.
