Vanni Polytechnic College

Vanni Polytechnic College is down in Vanniyambadi, which is in the Vellore district. It’s an area known for its industry, and we’re right in the middle of it. The weather here is usually pretty hot, and the college feels that too. We have workshops where students learn to work with their hands, and it can get quite loud with the sound of tools and machines. It’s not a polished environment. There’s grease on the floors sometimes, and the benches are well-worn. Most of our students are local boys and girls who want to learn a trade so they can start working as soon as possible. We don't spend a lot of time talking about big theories; we’re more interested in whether a student can actually fix something or put it together correctly. The campus has a bit of a rugged feel to it. We have a lot of students who travel quite a distance on the bus to get here every morning. The staff here is mostly people who have been in the technical field for years, so they don’t have much patience for fancy talk. We just want to make sure the students know their stuff before they finish their courses. It’s a hardworking place for hardworking people, and that’s how we’ve always run things here in Vanniyambadi. It’s messy, noisy, and honest, and that works for us and the students.
