At Sterling Spices & Food Products, we spend our days surrounded by the smell of different powders and grains. Our place is at 3 A on the Main Road in Kallachi. It’s a busy road, so there is always a bit of a breeze carrying the scent of cumin or chili outside. We do a lot of the packing and weighing right here in the shop. It’s a practical setup with big bins for the spices and a scale that’s seen better days but still works fine. Kallachi is a place where people care about what goes into their cooking, so we try to keep everything fresh. The floor usually has a light dusting of spice powder by the end of the shift, no matter how much we sweep. We have various food products lined up on wooden shelves that my father put up years ago. It’s not a polished store; it’s a working one. We talk to a lot of local cooks and mothers who come in looking for specific ingredients for their family meals. Sometimes we have to wait for shipments from the coast, and that can be a bit stressful when customers are waiting. We just keep things moving as best as we can, making sure the bags are sealed tight and the shelves don't stay empty for too long. It is hard work but the smell of the shop makes it a nice place to be.
