If you head down V K Krishna Menon Road in Kallai, you will find Akkumma Hardwares. We’ve been set up here for a long time, surrounded by the smell of sawdust and metal. Kallai is known for its history with wood, and our hardware store fits right into that landscape. We keep a lot of heavy stuff in stock—nails, hinges, tools, and all the bits and pieces you need to build or fix something. The floor is concrete and usually has some scuff marks from moving heavy crates around. It’s not a shiny showroom. It’s a place where builders and locals come when they have a job to do. I spend a lot of time counting out screws or helping someone find the right size of pipe. My hands are usually a bit dirty by the end of the day, which is fine by me. We don't use any fancy sales tactics. If we have it, we’ll sell it to you at a fair price. If we don't, we might know who does. It’s a straightforward way of doing things. The street outside is always noisy with trucks and bikes, but inside we just focus on the task at hand. We like being part of the Kallai community. It’s a place where people still value hard work and good tools. We just keep the doors open and the shelves stocked for whoever walks in. It is just a simple shop where we help people get their projects finished.
