Dr.Ulhas Patil Medical College&Hospital

This is Dr.Ulhas Patil Medical College&Hospital over in Koothattukulam. It is a pretty big place for this area, and you can see the main building from quite a distance away. I’ve worked here for a while now, and there is never a day that isn't busy. We have the college part where the students are always rushing to their classes with books in their hands, and then there is the hospital side where people are coming in for all sorts of medical help. It is a bit of a maze if you aren't used to it. The hallways are long and some of the paint is peeling near the windows, but it gets the job done. In the mornings, the lobby is packed with people waiting to see a doctor. We get folks from all the nearby villages. The staff here mostly eats at the small canteen on the ground floor; the tea is strong and usually too sweet. It isn't a quiet environment because there’s always an announcement on the speakers or someone moving equipment around. Koothattukulam is a small place otherwise, so the hospital is where a lot of the local activity happens. We see everything from minor cuts to people staying for a long time in the wards. It’s just a regular, working hospital. There isn't anything fancy about it, just a lot of people trying to get better or learn how to be doctors.
