About V K General Store – Food & Beverages in Kota
Our store is tucked away in the Charh Gali area, right near the old vegetable market. It’s a bit of a squeeze getting through the narrow lanes sometimes, especially in the mornings. We sell a bit of everything, from soap and shampoo to basic snacks and household items. The building is old, part of the Kansadiya Katla, so it has that traditional feel to it. I usually sit near the front while my nephew helps grab things from the back. It’s noisy because of the market nearby, but we like the energy. Customers come in for small things, maybe a pack of biscuits or some washing powder. We keep a ledger for the locals who have been buying from us for years. It’s not organized like those big supermarkets, but we know where everything is. Sometimes we run out of space and have to stack boxes outside for a few hours. The roof leaks a little when it rains hard, so we have to move the dry goods around. People stop by to chat as much as they do to shop. It’s a community spot really. We try to stock what the neighborhood asks for. If someone wants a specific brand of tea, we’ll try to get it in the next delivery. It’s a modest living but it’s what we know. We’ve seen the market change a lot over the decades, yet our small corner stays pretty much the same. Most days we close up just as the street lights come on.
