Rukamani Khas Bhandar

Our place, Rukamani Khas Bhandar, is located on Khai Road in the Nayapura area. It’s a busy road with lots of vehicles, so you have to be careful when you’re crossing over to see us. We’ve been here for a good amount of time now. The shop specializes in traditional items, the kind of things that have a specific scent or taste. We keep our stock in large jars and bins behind the counter. It isn't a modern supermarket where you pick things off a shelf. You tell us what you want, and we weigh it out for you right there. The building is older, but it stays cool even when the sun is beating down on Nayapura. We don’t spend much time on decorations or fancy lighting. The focus is just on the products we carry. Most of our customers are locals who live within walking distance, though some people drive in from other parts of the city. We talk to everyone who comes in, usually about the weather or how the local market is doing. It’s a slow-paced kind of business, which suits us just fine. We don't have a website or a social media page. If people want to find us, they just look for the sign on Khai Road. It’s how it’s always been, and we don't see any reason to change it. We just keep the doors open and wait for the next person to walk in. It is a quiet way to earn a living.
