We are located right on Gumanpura Road in the Mawa Mandi area. If you know Kota, you know how busy this road gets during the day. Our days start very early, way before the sun is even up, because that is when the fresh mawa arrives from the villages. We have to be there to check it and get it ready for the local shops. The mandi is a chaotic place with tractors and small vans squeezed into every available space. It smells like cooked milk and diesel fumes most of the time. We work out of a small space where we keep the containers stacked up high. There isn’t much room to move around once the morning shipments come in, so we have to be quick with the scales. I’ve been doing this for a long time, and my father did it before me. We don’t really change much about how we do things because the old way works fine. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to worry about the heat, but we usually manage to keep things cool enough. It’s a lot of physical work, lifting heavy crates and dealing with dozens of different people every single morning. By the time lunch rolls around, we are usually exhausted, but the work is done until the next batch comes in tomorrow. It’s a simple life, just supplying what the people need for their cooking.
