Jaymala General Store

Down on Teen Batti Road in the Balakund area of Kota you will find Jaymala General Store. It is situated in Keshavpura which is a place with a lot of movement. I spend my days behind the counter waiting for the next person to walk in. Most of the time it is students or people living in the apartments nearby. I keep a lot of snacks and stationery because that is what people ask for most. The shelves are a bit crowded and I often have to move three things just to get to one. I don't really have a system other than knowing where I put things last. The floor is made of old stone and it stays cool even when Kota is boiling outside. I open up around eight in the morning and stay until late at night. Sometimes I feel like I live here more than I do at my house. The noise from the road is constant. I get used to it after a while. I don't do any advertising or anything like that. People just see the sign and come in. I try to keep the prices fair and the items fresh. If a bag of chips looks old I just take it home myself. It is just a small local shop and that is all I ever intended it to be. I like the routine of it all and seeing the neighborhood grow.
