Harshit General Store

Harshit General Store is right opposite the Girls School in the Chawani area of Kota. Because of where we are located, we see a whole lot of students and parents every day. When school lets out, the shop gets really crowded for a little while with kids wanting snacks or pens. It is a bit loud for those few minutes, and then it goes back to being quiet. We keep a variety of things because you never know what someone might need, from notebooks to cooking oil for the kitchen. The shop is just a plain room with shelves all along the walls. The heat in Rajasthan can be really tough, so we stay under the fan and drink a lot of water while we wait for the next person to walk in. Sometimes the delivery truck gets delayed in traffic, so we might have a few empty spots on the shelves for a day or two. We do not use any complicated computers, just a simple drawer for cash and we remember most of the prices by heart. My brother helps me out in the evenings when it gets busier with people coming home from work. We have been here in Chawani for a while, and it is just a regular family-run spot. We just try to keep the shop open and the shelves filled for the local community.
