Fakri General Store

Fakri General Store is located in the small lane right by the Purani Police Chowki on Baran Road. It is a bit away from the main center of Kota, in the Borkheda area. This is mostly a residential neighborhood, so we know pretty much every person who walks through the door. The shop is quite small and we often have to stack the crates of cold drinks outside on the pavement during the day. We sell the usual stuff like bread, eggs, snacks, and basic toiletries. It is not a fancy place at all. The floor is just plain concrete and the shelves are made of simple wood that we painted ourselves. We don't have any big bright lights, just a few tube lights that flicker sometimes when the voltage is low. During the monsoon season, the lane outside gets a bit muddy, so we have to keep mopping the entrance to keep the shop clean. It is just me and my son working here most of the time. We don't have any computers or digital systems for the stock, we just remember the prices or look at the small stickers we put on the items. Sometimes we give a little credit to the neighbors if they are short on cash until the end of the month. That is just how things work in this part of town. We close up for a couple of hours in the afternoon when it gets really hot.
