Anand Kumar Ghanshyam Das is the name on the board outside our place on Arya Samaj Road. This business was started by the elders in the family a long time ago. We deal in various general goods that the local people need for their homes and small businesses. The building itself is quite old and has a lot of character, even if the stairs creak a bit when you walk up. We don't have a lot of staff, just a few of us who have been working together for years. Most of our day is spent sitting behind the wooden counter or moving stock around in the back room. It’s a bit dusty back there because some of the items have been sitting for a while. We still use physical ledgers for most of our record keeping because that is how we were taught. Computers are there, but they seem to cause more trouble than they are worth sometimes. Arya Samaj Road is a busy place with a lot of history, and we feel like a small part of that. We don't go out looking for customers with big ads or anything promotional. People know where we are if they need something. It’s a quiet, steady way to live. We just open the shutters in the morning and see who the day brings in. There is no rush, we just take things as they come and handle our daily chores.
