We are based out at the Khongapani Colliery. It’s a bit of a trek to get out here in the Korea district. Our main spot is at 72 Mines Colony. If you live out here, you know it’s a tight-knit place. Most of us live and work right in the same area. The houses are simple and the life is pretty quiet once the machines stop for the day. Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. Raigarh has had this presence here for a while. It’s a lot of mining work. You get used to the sound of the equipment and the smell of the earth. The pin code is 497447 if you’re trying to find us on a map. Life in a mining colony is different than the city. Everyone knows their neighbors. We help each other out. Sometimes the power goes out or the water is a bit slow, but we manage. It’s just how things are in this part of Chhattisgarh. We aren't here to impress anyone with words. We just do the digging and the hauling. The kids go to the local school and we mostly talk about work or the local weather. It’s honest work. The hills around here are nice to look at when the sun goes down. We've been here through the good seasons and the rainy ones too. It’s home for a lot of the workers and their families.
