Junior Engineer

I am Vivian Pinto and I work as a Junior Engineer at JSW Steel Ltd. It’s a big place but I try to keep my own approach simple. Working in a steel plant means everything is on a huge scale, but my job is to look at the small parts that keep it all moving. I don't have a private office with a view; usually, I’m out where the noise is. It’s a practical environment. You learn quickly that fancy words don't fix a machine or a structural issue. You just need to know your math and your materials. I’ve been with the company for a while now. My days are long and often involve a lot of walking. I don't think of myself as a corporate guy even though the company is large. I’m just an engineer. I talk to the technicians and the supervisors in the same way. We all have a job to do. Sometimes the heat from the furnaces is a lot to handle, but that’s part of the life. I keep my notes in a worn-out notebook and my boots are always scuffed. It’s honest work. I don't spend time writing mission statements. I just make sure the engineering side of things doesn't fail. It’s a lot of responsibility but I take it one day at a time. The sound of the machinery is my constant companion while I am on the floor.
