You can find us at 7A, Abinash Chandra Banerjee Lane. It’s a quiet little spot compared to the main roads. Unique Wood Crafts has been around for a bit, and we’ve stayed in this same place because it suits us. It’s not a large industrial unit, just a local workshop. We deal with wood every single day. The floor is usually covered in shavings and the air smells like polish and saw dust. We don't have a big staff, just a few of us who have been doing this for years. We don't have a showroom with bright lights. If you want to see what we are doing, you just come into the workshop and see us working. Sometimes we have a lot of orders and things get a bit cramped, with pieces of furniture waiting to be finished stacked up against the walls. We use older tools sometimes because they just work better than the new ones. We don’t really do marketing. People just know we are here. Sometimes the lane gets blocked by a delivery truck and we have to help them move so people can get through. It’s a very hands-on kind of life. We don’t have air conditioning, so we just keep the fans going and the doors open. It’s simple work but it requires a lot of patience. We just take things one day at a time. The local tea seller stops by twice a day and that's usually our only break.
