Thamma Didar Heshel

Our place, Thamma Didar Heshel, is located at 89 Tanupukur Road in Dhakuria. We’re on the second floor, specifically Flat No 8. It’s not a storefront on the street, so you have to know where you’re going. We’ve been cooking here for quite some time now. The name reminds us of the old kitchens our grandmothers used to run. That’s the kind of vibe we have going on. It’s usually just a few of us in the kitchen, making sure the recipes are followed. We don't use a lot of fancy equipment. A lot of it is done by hand, the way it used to be. Dhakuria is a nice area, quite busy but friendly. We get a lot of regulars who live in the nearby flats. They just call us up when they don't feel like cooking. We do our best to keep things consistent. Sometimes we run out of something and have to run down to the local market quickly. It’s a bit of a climb up those stairs with heavy bags of groceries, but it keeps us fit. We don't do much marketing or anything. We just rely on the food to speak for itself. It’s honest work. We aren't trying to be a five-star restaurant. We just want to provide a good meal to people who appreciate a home-cooked feel. Cooking is just what we know, and we do it every day.
