Working out of the Bantola Leather Complex means you get used to a very specific kind of environment. It is industrial and functional, not exactly a place for a Sunday stroll. We go by the name Tefl. Being here puts us right in the middle of the action for the leather trade. Every day there are trucks coming in and out, and the smell of the tanneries is just part of the air we breathe. Our space is more of a workshop or a processing area than a fancy office. We deal with the materials and the logistics of getting things ready for whatever comes next in the production line. It is hard work and the floors often get messy, but that is the nature of the business. Most of the staff live nearby or commute in on the local transport. We don't spend much time on fancy talk; we just focus on the tasks at hand. Sometimes the power goes out or the water supply is a bit finicky, but we manage. Lunch is usually a quick affair brought from home, eaten while sitting on crates or at the small wooden table in the corner. It is a gritty job, but there is a certain satisfaction in seeing the raw materials move through the gates. We have been part of this complex for a while and know most of the other faces around the site.
