Nivedita Communications

If you ever find yourself near the New Garia Metro Station, you’ve probably walked right past us. Nivedita Communications is situated on Vivekananda Sarani, right opposite the station entrance. It stays very busy because of all the commuters jumping on and off the trains all day. You can hear the announcements from the platform if the door is open. We deal with a lot of people who are in a hurry. They are usually on their way to work or heading home and need something done quickly. We don't have a lot of space for sitting around, so it’s mostly a standing-room kind of place. The shelves are full of various bits and pieces, and there is always a stack of paperwork near the till. It’s a practical setup. My cousin helps out most afternoons, and we just try to keep up with the crowd. Garia is a noisy place, but you get used to it after a week or two. Sometimes we have to shout a bit over the traffic noise to be heard. We don't spend money on fancy signs or anything. People find us because we are right there by the metro. It’s a simple life. We open up in the morning, handle the rush, and close when the trains start getting less frequent at night. It’s not a glamorous job, but it keeps us connected to the neighborhood. We just do our best with what we have.
