Our place, Smile & Profile Dental Treatment Clinic Private Limited, is situated at 144A Rashbehari Avenue. If you have ever been down Rashbehari, you know it is one of the busiest spots in the city. The noise from the trams and the buses is constant, but you kind of stop hearing it after a while. The building we are in is one of those older ones with high ceilings and heavy doors. We have been working here for a long time, watching the crowds go by outside our windows. The clinic itself is straightforward. We have the dental chairs, the cabinets for our instruments, and a small desk where we keep the ledger. It is a bit of a squeeze when more than three people are waiting at once, but we make it work. Most of our day is spent dealing with the usual dental stuff, nothing too fancy. We have a lot of regulars who live in the surrounding lanes and they usually walk over. Sometimes we have to run out to get change or pick up some supplies from the shops nearby. It’s a lived-in space. There are scratches on the floor from moving chairs and the paint is a bit dull in the corners. It feels like home to us though. We don’t bother with big ads or anything like that; people just know where we are. It’s just a honest day's work on a very busy Kolkata street.
