Ramesh Chand & Brothers

Ramesh Chand & Brothers is located at No. 14 Pageya Patti Street in the Barabazar Market area. If you know anything about Barabazar, you know it is one of the busiest places you could ever be. Pageya Patti Street is narrow and always packed with people, carts, and deliveries. We’ve been here for many years and the shop has been passed down through the family. It’s a small space, and we have to use every inch of the walls to store our goods. My brothers and I run the place together, and we often have disagreements about where things should go, but we manage. The building is very old, with thick walls and high ceilings, and it stays surprisingly cool even when it’s hot outside. We don't have fancy lights or air conditioning. Most of our day is spent talking to regular customers who have been coming to us for decades. We drink a lot of tea and watch the chaos of the market from our front step. It’s a tough place to work because of the noise and the crowds, but it’s home to us. We don't bother with websites or social media much because everyone who needs us knows where to find us on Pageya Patti Street. The walls are painted a dull yellow that has faded over the years, and we have some old calendars hanging up that we never bothered to take down. It gives the place a bit of character, I suppose. It’s just a traditional business doing things the old-fashioned way.
