We’re way up on the 14th floor of the Tata Centre on J L Nehru Road in Kolkata. Tm International Logistics Ltd. takes up a good chunk of space here. Looking out the windows, you can see across a big part of the city, which is probably the best part of working in this building. Being in such a tall building means we spend a lot of time waiting for elevators, especially in the mornings. The office is full of people on phones and computers, trying to track shipments and talk to drivers or port authorities. Logistics is a messy business, even when you're sitting in a high-rise. There’s always some delay or some paperwork that isn’t right, and that keeps us on our toes all day. It’s not a quiet place. There is a lot of shouting across desks and the constant hum of the AC. We’ve got stacks of files that never seem to get smaller. Kolkata is a busy city, and J L Nehru Road is right in the thick of it, so just getting to work is an adventure. We don’t have fancy modern office features like bean bags or game rooms. It’s just desks, chairs, and a lot of stressed people trying to move cargo from one side of the world to the other. We’ve been at the Tata Centre for years, and it’s become like a second home to most of the staff.
