Garment Care

Our shop is at D-256 on TG Road over in Garden Reach. It’s a part of Kolkata that never really stops moving. The address says D-256 TG Road twice on some of our papers, which is a bit funny, but that’s just how it got listed. We’ve been working out of this spot for years. It’s a straightforward setup. We have the machines near the front to catch the light from the door. Garden Reach has its own pace, and we just follow along with it. The air smells a bit like the river and the industrial area nearby. Inside Garment Care, things are usually a bit messy with scraps of thread and pieces of cloth. We don't spend much time cleaning up until the end of the week. There is always a lot of work to get through. We aren't a big corporation or anything. It’s just a handful of us who know how to handle clothes. Sometimes the neighbors come in just to chat while we work. The street outside is narrow and can get blocked by carts and trucks quite often. We don't mind the chaos too much. It’s just part of being on TG Road. We keep our heads down and focus on what’s in front of us. It’s a honest living and we’re glad to be here in this neighborhood doing what we know how to do. The days go by fast when you are busy with your hands.
