Dasgupta & Com. has its roots deep in Kolkata. Our office is out in the 700127 area. It’s a bit of a commute for some of us, but we like the space. It’s not in the middle of the city noise, which is nice when you need to focus. We’ve got a lot of files and old desks. It looks like a place where people actually work, because they do. We started small and stayed that way on purpose. It’s easier to manage things when you know everyone’s name. There isn’t a corporate manual or anything here. We just know how we do things. Sometimes the internet acts up, or the tea lady is late, but we get through the day. We deal with all sorts of people. Some have been coming to us for years. We don’t use fancy software for everything. A lot of our records are still kept in folders. It might seem old-fashioned to some, but it works for us. Kolkata is a city that respects tradition, and we fit right in. We don’t have a marketing department. If people like what we do, they tell their friends. That’s how we’ve stayed around. It’s just a group of us trying to do a good job without making a big fuss about it. We’re usually here until late evening, making sure the ledgers are balanced and the doors are locked tight.
