Graphico Print is down Abinash Mitra Lane at 10/2A, right near the Beadon Post Office. The lane is quite narrow, so it’s always a bit of a squeeze when we get paper deliveries. The first thing you notice when you walk in is the smell of ink and the loud humming of the printing machines. It’s a small shop and the walls are covered with samples of things we’ve printed over the years, mostly just scraps and offcuts. We have ink stains on our hands most of the time, and the floor is usually covered in bits of paper. We spend our days setting up the plates, checking the colors, and making sure the cutters are working right. It is noisy and messy work, but we are used to it. The post office being so close is handy for when we need to mail out orders. We don't have a receptionist or a fancy lobby; you just walk straight into the work area. The light comes in from a small window at the back that looks out onto an alleyway. We drink tea in small glasses and eat our lunch quickly because there is always a job that needs to be finished. It’s a lot of manual work, moving heavy stacks of paper and keeping the machines running smooth. We close up once the last job of the day is dry and packed, then we sweep up the floor.
