Ropuiliani Women Farmer Producer Company Limited

Our group is based in Mualkhang which is part of the Kolasib district in Mizoram. We are all women from around this area who decided to work together on our farming instead of struggling alone. It is much better when you have neighbors to help with the heavy work. We handle different types of crops depending on what the season and the soil allow us to grow. Living in Mizoram means the land is quite steep so we have to be very smart about how we plant everything. We all met up and decided that forming a company would help us manage our sales a bit better than before. We do not have a big office building with desks. We mostly meet up in Mualkhang to discuss what needs doing on the farms. Farming is hard work especially when you have to balance it with your family and everything else at home. We get out to the fields very early in the morning before the sun gets too hot to bear. We talk about the seeds and the soil and who might be buying our produce this time. It is a completely local effort. We do not have any fancy marketing or polished speeches. We just focus on the harvest and making sure the plants are healthy. Sometimes we have real problems with the transport because the roads in Kolasib get very muddy during the monsoon rains. But we manage it anyway.
