Dav Central School

Living near G T Road in Giridih means you never really get true silence. Dav Central School is right in the middle of Isri Bazar, so there is always a lot going on outside our walls. You can hear the trucks shifting gears and the vendors calling out their prices for vegetables. Inside the school, we try to keep things a bit more focused. The building is a solid one, with heavy doors and floors that we mop every single morning before the students arrive. There are stacks of textbooks in the corner of my office and a pile of sports gear that needs sorting. We have a small yard where the kids line up for assembly. Sometimes the pigeons get into the rafters and make a mess, so we have to chase them out. It’s a practical place. We don’t have plush carpets or big statues. It’s just rows of benches, blackboards that need a good scrub, and teachers who have been working here long enough to know every family in the neighborhood. When the final bell rings, the bazar gets even more crowded as everyone heads home. We usually stay back to lock up the cupboards and turn off the lights. It’s a lot of work keeping a school running on such a busy road, but we’ve gotten used to the rhythm of Isri Bazar over the years. We just take it one day at a time and try to keep the dust off the books.
