Raha Fashion Cloth & Accessories

Being located at VI-141 in Jew Town, Mattancherry, means we are right in the middle of all the history here. Raha Fashion Cloth & Accessories is a small place near the Kappalandimukku area. The streets are narrow and filled with the smell of spices and old buildings. We have a lot of cloth and different accessories piled up on the shelves. It’s often very humid, so the fans are always clicking away overhead. I spend a lot of my time showing tourists and locals the different fabrics we have. Some people want to bargain for a long time, and I don't mind that, it’s just part of the day. The shop has been here for a while, and the floorboards are a little uneven in places. We don't have any fancy displays or bright spotlights. Most of the light comes from the open doorway. It can get very busy when the tour buses arrive, but most of the time it’s just us and the neighboring shopkeepers having a chat. I usually eat my lunch in the back room while listening to the birds outside. It’s a simple life, selling fabric and beads to whoever stops by. We don't have a big marketing plan or anything like that. We just open the doors every morning and see who comes in to look at the colorful stacks of cloth we’ve collected.
