Toshali Sands

Toshali Sands sits right on the Konark Marine Drive in Baliguali. It’s a place that has seen a lot of seasons. The sea air is always blowing through, which is nice but it also means we are always fixing up the doors and windows. The sand really does get everywhere, even if we sweep three times a day. We have a lot of local workers from the nearby villages who have been with us since the start. They know the area better than anyone. It’s not some polished corporate hotel. We have some cracks in the tiles and the garden grows a bit wild when the rains come heavy. Most guests are here to see the Sun Temple or just sit by the water. We serve regular food that fills you up. The kitchen gets quite loud during the breakfast rush when everyone wants their eggs at the same time. We don't use any fancy systems, just a big logbook at the front desk. Sometimes the power goes out when there’s a storm, but we have some backup. It's just a regular spot for people who want to be near the beach without all the city noise. We spend our mornings watering the plants and making sure the paths are clear. It's a simple life out here on the coast and we just try to keep things moving along for whoever stops by for a night or two.
