We are based out in Kumarbasta, which is near Khurda. It’s a bit of a drive from the main city but we like it here. Being in a post-village area means things move a bit slower, but the work is still constant. We handle the power transmission side of things for the district. The building isn’t anything special to look at. Just a solid place where we keep our tools and paperwork. Most of our guys live nearby. We know the neighbors and the local shops. Sometimes we have to go out into the fields to check on the lines. It gets muddy during the monsoon season. We wear our boots and get on with it. There is always something to fix or a report to write. We don’t use a lot of big words or fancy talk. If something is broken, we find a way to make it work again. It’s practical stuff. The office has a ceiling fan that clicks a bit, but it keeps us cool enough. We’ve been here long enough that we don’t need a map to find our way around the local sub-stations. It’s a good community. We take our lunch together when we can. It’s just us doing our part for the local grid. No one here is looking for a trophy. We just want to finish the day knowing the power is flowing where it’s supposed to go. Sometimes the local kids come by and peek through the gate. We tell them to stay back for safety. The trucks we use are a bit old and they rattle on the dirt roads, but they haven't let us down yet. We do our own basic repairs on them too. It saves money and we know how they work.
