Down in Jatni, specifically in the Bali Chack Sahi area, our work is as straightforward as it gets. Jatni is a place where people know the value of hard work, and we try to live up to that every day at our Ultratech Cement branch. We are located near the S/O Balaram Sahu spot, which is how most locals identify our corner of the neighborhood. It’s a dusty part of the Khurda district, but that’s expected when you’re dealing with construction materials. Our office is small and usually has a few people standing around talking about the latest building projects in the area. We don't have much in the way of fancy furniture, just some sturdy desks and a lot of ledgers. The work is physical and repetitive, but it’s what keeps the town growing. We see the same faces every week, from the small-time masons to the bigger contractors. There’s no corporate polish here; we speak plainly and just focus on getting the bags of cement to the people who need them. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to do everything by hand, but we’re used to it. The Orissa heat can be brutal in the summer, making the unloading of trucks a real chore. We just keep some cold water handy and get through the day. It’s a simple, honest business that we’ve been part of for a good while.
