Kameshwar Ice Factory

Working at Kameshwar Ice Factory means you’re always dealing with the cold, even when it’s forty degrees outside. We are located at Plot No. 1716 in Phase-2 of the GIDC area. The main thing you notice when you walk in is the hum of the compressors. They never really stop. We make large blocks of ice that get loaded onto trucks for the local markets and fish sellers. There is water on the floor all the time, so you have to watch your step or you’ll slip. We use heavy hooks to move the ice around. It’s hard work on the back, but it keeps you cool in the summer. During the hot months, the demand is so high that we can barely keep up with the orders. We have a small room where we sit and take breaks, and it feels like a different world compared to the freezing area where the ice is made. We don't do any fancy packaging or branding. It’s just solid, clear ice blocks. The trucks start lining up early in the morning before the sun is even up. We work in shifts to keep the production going. It’s a simple business, but it’s an essential one for this part of the country. When the day is done, we drain the excess water and check the machines one last time. It’s a cold way to make a living, but it works for us.
