Little Star School is right in the middle of Karepalli in the Khammam district. If you are looking for the place, it’s not hard to spot since it’s been a part of this community for a while. We start our days early before the heat gets too bad in the afternoon. The school is basically a few rooms where the children sit together on wooden benches and work on their books. It’s a simple setup without many extras, but it works for us and the local families here. Most of our teachers live nearby, so they often walk to work or come in on their scooters. There is always a bit of dust because of the roads nearby, and we spend some time every morning sweeping out the classrooms. During the monsoon season, the sound of the rain on the roof is so loud that we sometimes have to pause the lessons until it lets up a bit. The playground is just a patch of ground where the kids run around during their breaks, and they usually come back in with dirty knees and big smiles. We don't have a big office or anything, just a small desk where we keep the registers and the daily attendance sheets. It is a quiet kind of life out here in Karepalli, and the school just hums along with the rhythm of the village. Most of the parents are farmers or work local jobs, so they appreciate having a place close by for their children.
