Growing Of Cotton

Our place is at 1-285/2 in Amar Singh Thanda, which is part of Komararam in the Yellandu area. This is mostly about the cotton. We spend a lot of time out in the fields or near the storage sheds. It depends on the season. When the harvest comes, everything gets very busy and there is white lint everywhere. The house is right there on the land, so work and life are basically the same thing. We don't have a corporate office or anything like that. It is just the land and the crop. Sometimes the weather doesn't help us much, but we deal with it as it comes. We have some old equipment that we keep fixing up to keep things moving. It is a lot of physical labor, dragging sacks and checking the plants. The dust from the road can get thick in the dry months. We know all the neighbors because we’ve lived here for ages. It’s a quiet life in the Thanda, away from the big city noise. We just focus on growing what we can and getting it ready for the market. It’s not a complicated business, just the way things have been done here for a long time. We wake up when the roosters start crowing and stay out until it's too dark to see. We usually have a bit of tea before heading out to check the fences.
