Hamza Agate

If you head into Nakrat Ni Pole, you will eventually find Hamza Agate. We are in one of those old houses that has been converted over time to fit our needs. Agate work is what we do, and it is a messy business with all the grinding and polishing. There is stone dust on almost every surface, no matter how much we clean. We have been here for years, and the sound of the wheels turning is just part of the background now. The pole is narrow, so you can't really bring a car in, but that is just how it is in this part of town. We sit on small stools and work on the pieces one by one. My father did this, and his father too, so it is just what we know. We don't have a big showroom or fancy lights to make the stones look better. They are what they are. People who want real agate know where to find us. We spend a lot of time looking at the colors in the stones and deciding how to cut them. It is quiet work mostly, punctuated by the noise of the machines. We have a small stove in the corner for making tea, and that is about as fancy as it gets. It is just a small family business in a narrow alley. The stones come in rough and leave smooth, and that is the whole story. We do not need much more than that.
