Evergreen Pattamundai Farmers Producer Company is based in Sanajaria, which is part of Pattamundai. We are a group of local people who came together to handle our farming produce better. It's not a big corporate office; mostly we meet up at our storage spot in Sanajaria. We deal with whatever the local farmers are growing in their fields. Sometimes it’s rice, other times it’s vegetables depending on the time of year. We spend a lot of time talking to the growers and trying to figure out the best way to get the crops to the market. It’s very much a community effort. We have a small shed for keeping the tools and some of the harvest before it moves on. The roads around here can be a bit rough after a big storm, so we have to plan our transport carefully. No one here is an expert in marketing. We just know about farming and how hard the work is. We sit around on plastic chairs and go over the numbers for the week. It’s an honest way to make a living in this part of Orissa. Being in Pattamundai, we are close to the land and the people who work it. We just want to make sure the farmers get a fair deal for what they grow. It’s simple, local work that keeps us busy from dawn till dusk. We don't have fancy titles, we just do whatever needs to be done that day. Usually, that means checking the weight of the bags and talking to the truck drivers.
