Shyam Puria Rice Milling Industries

We are located at Plot No.-2 on the Kashipur Road, right near the kilometer mile stone in Udham Singh Nagar. Shyam Puria Rice Milling Industries has been operating from this spot for quite a bit. The road outside is usually full of traffic, so you have to be careful when turning into our driveway. We have a fair amount of space here, which is good because the paddy takes up a lot of room before it is processed. The mill itself is a big shed with a lot of metal piping and loud motors. It gets quite hot inside during the summer, so we try to do most of the heavy work early in the morning or late in the afternoon. I spend most of my day watching the machines or writing down weights in a ledger. We aren't big on technology here; a pen and paper work just fine for us. The local farmers bring their harvest directly to us. We’ve known some of these families for generations. It’s a quiet life in a way, even with all the noise of the machines. We just focus on the task at hand. Sometimes the rain makes the yard a mess, but we have some gravel down to help with the trucks. There is always a lot of sweeping to do because the rice husks get into every corner. We don't have a fancy office, just a couple of chairs and a fan. It’s a practical place for practical work.
