S N Polytechnic College is situated in Kasaragod, very close to the railway station in Kanhangad. If you are coming by train, it is a very short walk to reach us in the 671315 area of Kerala. Being near the tracks means we hear the trains whistling and rattling by all day long, which is something we’ve all just gotten used to. The college is a place where a lot of practical work happens. We have various workshops and rooms filled with tools and machinery for the polytechnic students. Kerala is known for its rain, and around here in Kasaragod, it can get very wet. The building has seen many monsoons, and it shows on the walls, but it’s a sturdy place. We aren't a high-end private facility; we are a local college that serves the community in Kanhangad. The staff room is usually a mess of papers and drawings. We spend a lot of time helping students figure out how to use the equipment properly. It’s hands-on work. Most of the people working here live in the nearby neighborhoods, so there’s a real sense of community. We don’t put on any acts or use big words to describe what we do. We just turn up, open the gates, and get to work with the students. The canteen is small but serves decent tea, which is where most of us end up at the end of the day. It’s just how life is for us here near the station.
