About Sadabahar Handloom – Fashion & Trends in Karnal
If you walk down Aggarwal Street 2nd, just off Gohana Road, you’ll hear the clatter of the looms before you even see our sign. Sadabahar Handloom has been sitting in this spot for a long time. The street is pretty narrow, so it’s always a struggle when a delivery truck tries to squeeze through. Inside, the air is full of tiny bits of cotton fluff that catch the light from the windows. We’ve got stacks of fabric piled up almost to the ceiling. Some of the patterns are old ones we’ve used forever, and some are just whatever thread we had plenty of that week. My cousin and I usually handle the front while the workers stay in the back where it’s louder. The floor is made of old stone and it’s worn down in the spots where people stand the most. We don't really do much advertising. Most people who come here just know us from living nearby or having bought something years ago that’s still sitting in their house. Sometimes the tea arrives cold, and someone grumbles, but then we get back to the thread. The colors of the yarn change with the seasons, but the noise of the machinery stays the same. It’s a bit cramped in here when the new stock arrives, but we manage to find a place for everything eventually. We just keep our heads down and keep the shuttles moving.
