If you’re ever at Committee Chowk, you’ll see us at Shop No 20. We are right opposite the Clock Tower, which is the big landmark everyone uses to find their way around here. Being across from the Clock Tower means we hear the bell every hour, which kind of helps us keep track of the day. Kali Ram Bhupinder Kumar has been a part of this market for a long time. The shop is filled with all sorts of things, and sometimes it’s hard to see the back wall because of all the stock piled up. It’s a traditional kind of place. We don't have computers everywhere or a modern layout. We use old ledgers and we know where everything is, even if it looks a bit cluttered to someone else. The Chowk is always full of people, vendors, and traffic, so there is never a dull moment. We spend a lot of time talking to customers who come in to buy a few things or just to check prices. Sometimes the tea seller comes by and we take a break, sitting on the stools near the entrance. It gets quite hot in the summer with the sun hitting the front of the shop, but we’ve got a fan that keeps things moving. It’s a busy, dusty, and loud place to work, but we wouldn’t know what to do with ourselves anywhere else. It’s just how things are at the Chowk.
