Sanchita Creations

Up on the 1st Floor at 119/501 Kalpi Road, Sanchita Creations is usually buzzing with the sound of sewing machines. Darshan Purwa is a busy area, and being on the first floor gives us a little bit of distance from the street noise, though not much. The stairs are a bit narrow, so bringing up rolls of fabric can be a bit of a struggle sometimes. Inside, there are scraps of cloth everywhere and thread reels scattered on the benches. It’s a working space, not a gallery. We spend the day cutting, measuring, and stitching. Our hands are usually stained with some dye or just tired from the scissors. We don’t have a big front desk or a receptionist. If you come in, you’ll likely find us bent over a machine or a table, focused on a piece. The light comes in through the big windows at the front, which helps with the fine work. We’ve got a couple of ceiling fans that work overtime in the summer months. It’s just a group of us who enjoy making things. We don’t talk much about "vision" or "style"; we just try to make sure the seams are straight and the finish is decent. It’s a practical, hardworking atmosphere here on Kalpi Road, and that’s just how we like to keep it. Most evenings we finish up late and just want to get home to rest for the next day.
